New Blog, Please Check it Out
I have been running two blog sites these past couple of months; one’s about the Flyers and the other the Phillies. Last night, I decided to combine them into one website so all my readers can go to one place to read my entries.
The new site is called The Broad Street Scoop. I will no longer post any of my work on Operation Orange Crush or Phillies Phandom. All of my work will be on my new blog, which will feature some Eagles, and college sports when I have time and drive to write about them.
Thank you for reading, and hope to see you check my new blog.
Ray Emery Will Miss Six Weeks With Abdominal Injury
PHILADELPHIA — The Flyers announced that goalie Ray Emery will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair an abdominal injury, and has been placed on injured reserve.
Emery, 27, has been short with the media in the last couple of weeks during the Flyers free fall in the Eastern Conference standings, and his plays has had many fans speculating whether Razor has been playing through injury.
In 21 appearances in between the pipes in his first season with the Orange ‘n Black, Emery has posted a 11-8-1 record with a 2.83 goals against average and .901 save percentage; however in his last five games, he has allowed 21 pucks to get past him.
Brian Boucher will take over as the Flyers starting goalie starting tonight against the New York Islanders. Johan Backlund has been recalled from Adirondack to backup Boucher.
Boucher has played in eight games this season, compiling a 2-5 record with a 2.60 GAA and .902 save percentage.
Laliberte recalled, to play against Islanders
Along with bringing up Backlund, the Flyers have also summoned David Laliberte from the Phantoms to replace Riley Cote in the lineup while Daniel Carcillo serves the remainder of his four game suspension.
Laliberte, 23, has scored two goals and one assist in eight games with a plus-one rating and six penalty minutes.
Carcillo Suspended Four Games by NHL; Should the Flyers Do So Too?
PHILADELPHIA — Danny Carcillo has been suspended four games by the National Hockey League for a first period sucker punch of Washington Capitals’ Matt Bradley in Saturday night’s 8-2 loss, which resulted in 19 penalty minutes.
On the ensuing nine-minute power play, Washington went onto score three goals. The punch ultimately doomed the Flyers as we will never know how the game would have played out if it hadn’t have happened.
At the time of the fight, it was a tie game. The momentum was just shifting Philadelphia’s way in Peter Laviolette’s debut as head coach, one day after replacing John Stevens behind the bench.
Since the league took action against Carcillo for another classless act by a player with a bad reputation, you gotta wonder whether Laviolette should implement a suspension of his own to send a message to the team.
The 24-year-old Carcillo was looking like he was turning a corner in his career as it seemed like he was learning how to keep his emotions under control; however this cheapshot proves that he’s still the same old guy.
Philadelphia acquired him from the Coyotes at the trade deadline last season for Scottie Upshall in a salary dump move, but they described Carcillo as a guy who has good hands and a player they liked.
But everyone knew that he was a goon and nothing more. He led the entire league in penalty minutes, and he was coming to the team who led the league in PIM. Great fit, eh?
If Carcillo is going to continue to stunts like this, he doesn’t deserve to play for the Flyers. These kinds of things cost games, and that can’t be had. He needs to be taught a lesson, and Stevens wasn’t willing to do it.
Laviolette is a difficult coach to play for, and will not shy away from benching a player to make a point. Carcillo’s latest incident cost the Flyers two points, and that’s simply unacceptable.
While the likelihood of the Flyers taking action of their own against Carcillo is highly unlikely as it sounded like Holmgren didn’t agree with the suspension. Regardless, No. 13 will be sitting out the next four games.
Ray Emery Proving Doubters Wrong With Flyers

When the Philadelphia Flyers signed goaltender Ray Emery this past summer, there were a lot of so-called experts and fans questioning the decision to bring in the troubled netminder, who played in Russia last year.
The doubters were saying that he’s a time-bomb waiting to go off. That he’s a cancer, and will destroy the Flyers’ locker room. They were saying this will be another failed experiment at the goalie position.
They were wrong.
Danny Briere Leaves Practice; Will Not Play Against Carolina

You knew the Philadelphia Flyers were legitimate Stanley Cup contenders entering the season as long as the injury bug didn’t catch on.
Unfortunately, that’s been the case in the last couple of days with Simon Gagne landing on long-term injury with two hernias.
Like that wasn’t bad enough, Danny Briere left practice on Friday with a “lower-body injury,” and is not expected to play in Philadelphia’s matinee against the Hurricanes on Halloween.
Los Angeles Kings Claim Defenseman Randy Jones Off Re-Entry Waivers
The Los Angeles Kings claimed defenseman Randy Jones off of re-entry waivers on Thursday morning, which means that the Flyers are responsible to pay half of his salary.
Jones, who has one assist in six games with the Adirondack Phantoms, is in his final year of a two-year contract extension he signed in the summer of 2008 with Philadelphia, and he is making $2.73 million this season; the Flyers are on the books for $1.73 million.
In 217 games with the Flyers in his five year career, Jones collected 13 goals and 56 assists for 69 points with a minus-three rating. Going undrafted, the 6′2″, 200-pound blue liner spent seven years with the Flyers organization.
Flyers Place Randy Jones On Re-Entry Waivers

According to Bob McKenzie, the Philadelphia Flyers have placed defenseman Randy Jones on re-entry waivers.
Jones, who was placed on waivers by the Flyers on Sept. 26, has two assists and is a plus-2 while playing for the Adirondack Phantoms.
This move likely means that Simon Gagne will be headed to the long-term injury reserve, and Jones will rejoin the Flyers to add some defensive depth. If Jones should not clear re-entry, the Flyers will split his $2.75 million salary for this season.
UPDATE (3:37 PM): Flyers placed Gagne on LTI.
Simon Gagne Out Indefinitely With Two Hernias
Philadelphia Flyers left wing Simon Gagne will miss a significant amount of time with two hernias in his right groin as general manager Paul Holmgren revealed on Tuesday. No decision has been made on whether he’ll undergo surgery, but he’ll be out an indefinitely.
Bucks County Times Flyers Beat Writer Wayne Fish reported prior to the official announcement that Gagne may require season ending hernia surgery, and that the Flyers were “contemplating” placing him on injured reserve.
The 29-year-old didn’t see a lot of ice time in the third period of Sunday night’s 4-1 loss to San Jose, and didn’t practice on Monday. He had an ultrasound done, which showed the hernias.
Mike Richards Should Not Be Punished For Clean Hit
Philadelphia Flyers center Mike Richards received a five-minute major and game misconduct late in the second period after laying a huge hit on Florida Panthers left wing David Booth, which knocked the up-and-coming 24-year-old out cold and forced him to leave on a stretcher.
Booth was seen moving his arms and legs, and was taken to Pennsylvania Hospital. He’ll remain at the hospital while the rest of the Panthers board the plane for their next game when they host Ottawa on Wednesday.
According to Anthony SanFilippo, it sounds like Booth will be OK with a concussion and bad cut over the eye.
